day 2.262

miley's last first single?
reigning tween queen miley cyrus is continuing to shed her disney image, this time with new music. "can't be tamed" is the lead single off of cyrus' summer album, also titled can't be tamed. just from the cover art, it's pretty obvious cyrus is trying to say "look, i'm an adult" because, really, only an adult would put herself in a life-size bird cage and pose seductively. the song has a rock-y vibe that will probably appeal more to cyrus' older fan base than the hannah montana clan. "can't be tamed" deals with boys thinking they can make cyrus their kept woman and, well, she can't be tamed. duh. listen to the song for yourself. it's no "party in the usa," but it will definitely be a hit. while cyrus may be trying to shed her good girl image, disney is probably more excited than ever. cyrus is on hollywood records, an imprint of the mouse house's recording studio. this is the first time that disney has had real commercial crossover with an artist - someone who can get played on both radio disney and your local hits station. they tried to make it happen with hilary duff, but she just turned into a guinea pig. raven was their second attempt, but disney finally hit gold with cyrus. the sad (for some) news is that miley has said multiple times that can't be tamed will be her final record, at least for the time being. she'd rather focus on her movie career, apparently. i guess we'll see how that goes. my guess is that cyrus will be releasing a fourth album sometime in 2012.

day 2.261

the hills
i haven't really watched the hills since lauren conrad peaced out. that is until this weekend, when mtv ran the "every hills episode ever" marathon. naturally, i killed brain cells and sat down to watch it. ok, it was more i was doing homework and needed a constant distraction. same difference. anyway, i watched the whole thing and remembered how effing attached i used to be to the show. it used to be one of my weekly staples. my how times have changed. so, after over a year of being hills free i decided to act like it was 2006 all over again and actually watched the season premiere, mostly because it's the final season. and because i wanted to see heidi montag's face in action (for curious minds, her jaw is so sore she can't chew and her boobs are too big for her to hug people). the show is pretty much a joke of what it used to be, but entertaining in a new way. i'll probably be following the final season just to see if they can get lauren conrad back for 2 seconds of screen time. the thing i still don't understand is how they can act like l.c. doesn't exist - she and lo (who is now a series regular, but stephanie pratt isn't?) still live together!

oh and this whole post was really just to get you to watch the video above. it's a send-up of the once number one cable show, but done by kids.

day 2.260

is the office closing?
if a recent radio with bbc is to be taken seriously (which it should be), nbc's the office only has one season left in its run. steve carell told the bbc that his contract with the network is up after next year and that he doesn't plan to sign on for more. click here to hear steve's quick interview with the station for yourself. if steve isn't just trying to get more money from the peacock by saying he'll be pulling out, the office will end in the spring of 2011 with seven seasons. that's six more seasons than its british counterpart had back in 2001 - the ricky gervais version was only one season long with a couple of specials aired here and there. i actually think this is the right move for nbc. while the office is popular amongst the college set, it doesn't have legs with the people who watch tv when it's actually on and have the money to spend on what advertisers want to sell - that would be the 30+ set. nbc used to be the comedy leader, with hits like friends and will & grace pulling in 20+ million viewers every thursday. it's current comedy block is lucky to reach 9 million. it's time to move away from the hand-held mockumentary style sitcom and get back to the basics of a live audience and three cameras. i know people say that format is outdated, but cbs gets mega-ratings every monday for their two hour block of comedies that's shot that way. plus, nbc is just wasting amy poehler on parks and rec (i don't care what anyone says about it getting better since season one, she's being wasted). hopefully the peacock net will take carell's departure as a sign to move on to bigger and better things. literally.

April 27, 2010

day 2.259

the best news...ever?
one of the funniest people on tv may be getting a big promotion. heather morris, who plays the dumbest cheerio alive, brittany, on glee, is set to be bumped up to series regular alongside naya rivera (santana) starting next season on the show. entertainment weekly is reporting that the duo will get their names scrolled out alongside current stars lea michelle and corey monteith when glee returns next fall. brittany has quickly become my favorite person on glee and is probably the most quotable character. morris and rivera will be joined by the three new characters currently being cast via an online casting call as series regulars. click here to check out the thousands vying for a spot on the show next season. voting reopens on the competition for one day tomorrow, so if you see (or hear) someone you like, be sure to give them a gold star.

check out one of brittany quotes above and make sure to tune into glee tonight on fox after idol, 9/8c.

April 26, 2010

day 2.258

and you thought "tardy for the party" was bad
i apologize in advance for the ear lashing you may choose to experience. another real housewife has decided to throw herself into the world of music. real housewives of new york cast member countess luann de lesseps has recorded "money can't buy you class," an etiquette-themed song that goes perfectly with her book class with the countess, which was released last year. the song is the biggest hot mess i think i've ever heard. it's a mix of attempting to sing and talk-rapping. it's autotuned beyond belief, so much so it seems like luann cannot carry a tune whatsoever. if you feel the need, check out the song above. it will leave you yearning for kim zolciak's "tardy for the party."

April 25, 2010

day 2.257

it's sunday - so that means...
saturday night live video! yep, snl was new again last night with house gabourey sidibe. i wasn't really expecting much from ms. sidibe and, well, i guess she at least met my expectations? maybe even exceeded them. the precious star played angry, large woman after angry, large woman. it worked for the most part, but gabby had a little trouble keeping the giggles down, and so did some of the regular cast members. check out the highlights of sidibe's snl stop below.

update: it looks like nbc's video player is having issues, but check out the suze orman, stefon and crazy lady sketches from the links above.

day 2.256

back...
tomorrow. i know, two days in a row. so sue me. ok, don't really.

April 23, 2010

April 22, 2010

day 2.254

the hard times of mtv mtv is taking another swat at scripted comedy. the channel formerly known for music will premiere the hard times of rj berger this summer. the show is about a high school nerd whose life is hell until the school learns of his special gift - he's got a big, well, you know. check out the trailer for the series above. it looks like it would probably make a better movie than weekly series, but i might be wrong (especially since i haven't seen more than the trailer). it will be interesting to see if this show is a hit or a miss. hbo's similarly themed thomas jane vehicle, hung, is just doing alright, but maybe the high school crowd will take a greater liking to the theme of well endowed losers. all of mtv's past scripted (and semi-scripted) attempts have flopped, so hopefully they hit success at some point.

April 21, 2010

day 2.253

if you don't watch this

you have a problem.

April 20, 2010

day 2.252

karen walker to hit the road
it looks like megan mullaly wants to strike lightening twice. the former will and grace funny lady will be putting on her fake hair and voice to travel the country hopefully this summer as her tv alter ego karen walker. reports are surfacing that mullaly is developing karen: the musical as a traveling production that would bring her boozy millionaire-ess to w&g fans all over the country. the production hasn't been staged yet, but it sounds like it will be a pretty big hit. mullaly's career has kind of fizzled since her must-see-tv days. she had a failed talk show and sitcom (into the motherhood) and is now playing a supporting role on starz's comedy party down, filling the void left by jane lynch's leave for glee. people expect to hear karen, not see megan, so this seems like the best bet to keep megan in hollywood.

April 19, 2010

day 2.251

did she or didn't she?
rumor has it kate hudson got a boob job. if she did, those are the smallest implants i've ever seen. maybe she just gained a little weight in a certain area? or maybe she has a very skilled doctor. chances are we'll never know.

April 18, 2010

day 2.250

ke$ha is krazy
check out the singer's two crazy performances from last night's saturday night live. if this is a preview of what her concert with rihanna will be like this summer, i see a lot of people buying tickets.

day 2.247

r.i.p. betty
amanda, i'll miss you most of all. there's still chance of a movie, though.

April 14, 2010

day 2.246

it's back! it's back! it's back!
the best new show of the 2009 season - glee - returned last night to wrap up its freshman season. the first of the musical comedy's back nine episodes (that's industry speak for, well, the last nine eps of the season) premiered to over 13 million viewers, a season high for the show and a record setting number for the tv season; 13 million viewers makes glee the top rated freshman show on tv right now. that's a pretty big deal. now that glee has idol as a lead-in, its audience is sure to grow each and every week. the remaining eight episodes of the season feature, on average, two or more musical numbers than the first 13. next week's episode (titled "the power of madonna") cannot come soon enough for me. check out a little teaser above - the music video for sue sylvester's "vogue." i cannot get enough of it. to preview other songs from the episode, click here.

in glee spoiler news, it looks like there may be a little cougar action going on. word has it that mr. schu's soon-to-be-ex teri will take it upon herself to become finn's mentor when the high school stud takes a job at sheets-n-things. but, don't worry. their relationship won't be romantic. teri apparently sees a lot of her husband in the high schooler and thinks of taking finn under her wing as a do-over.

April 13, 2010

day 2.245

what the what? death in primetime.
someone in the picture above is about to die. well, at least that's my guess. entertainment weekly's resident tv know-it-all michael ausiello posted this blind item a little while ago and today he updated it with a big clue: the show with a leading actor death coming in the season finale is none other than grey's anatomy spin-off private practice. nothing like a shocking death of a major player to drum up interest in your show's season finale. my guess for the soon-to-be-dead damsel is amy brenneman's violet. one of the clues in the spoiler was that the actor or actress would be an ausiello fave. to be a fave, you have to have been around a while. brenneman previously starred on judging amy, which had quite the loyal following. i never understand killing off characters (bring people back for sweeps, people!) so this may be the shows first inkling of jumping the shark. just saying. but, we'll all have to wait and see who dies on may 13th.

April 12, 2010

day 2.244

coco coming back to your tv
well that didn't take long. after being booted from his late night post at nbc in favor of bringing back former host jay leno from the oblivion of primetime, former tonight show host conan o'brien has landed himself a new nightly gig. the red haired funny man will be bringing his comedy stylings to tbs come fall. conan's show will premiere sometime in november and run four nights a week (monday through thursday) alongside current tbs late night-er george lopez. lopez's show will get pushed back to the 12/11c time-slot to make room for conan at 11/10c. early reports had conan taking his schtick to fox, but i never bought it. fox never seemed all that interested in getting coco - he didn't work on nbc so why would he work on a different network without an established late night schedule? fox affiliates make tons of money of syndicated shows like friends and sex and the city in the time-slot he would have taken, too, so it would have been a lose-lose for the network. i would say conan's move to basic cable is a downgrade for him, but the right move. cable late night series are growing in popularity and are where comedy is going. it will be interesting how conan does; i predict tbs' biggest ratings ever for his premiere, but for him to taper off around 900,000 viewers a night (those are the type of ratings chelsea lately gets). i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

April 11, 2010

day 2.243

tina fey, back at home
last night marked tina fey's second stint as host for snl. fey delivered what has probably been the best episode this season, which isn't all that surprising. when old-snl-er's return, it's usually comedic gold because they're use to the way the show works. tina reprised her role as sarah palin, played a tiger woods ho, a teacher hot for justin bieber and so much more. check out the highlights below.
check out more from tina over at hulu.com

April 10, 2010

day 2.242

get ready to gleek out
my favorite show of the season is back this week (tuesday, to be exact) and here's your first look at one of the new musical numbers. get excited.

April 9, 2010

"like jasmine and aladdin?" "yes, sweetie. but with cocktails."
sex and the city 2 is headed to the big screen in just over a month and here's your first look at the star studded sequel. the nyc ladies are back for what looks to be a little more fun than they had the last time they popped up in theaters. the second installment of the franchise (there's a good chance there will be at least one more movie - they have to knock them out before it turns into a relaunch of the golden girls) takes place two years after the events of the first flick. everyone seems to be happier than ever, but appearances can be deceiving right? check out the trailer above and get ready for the film to hit a theater near you may 28th. this time, the cast includes appearances by liza minelli, miley cyrus, penelope cruz and john corbett, who reprises his role as aiden.

April 8, 2010

April 7, 2010

day 2.240

jimmy fallon is the new kate gosselin?
if you're not watching dancing with the stars this season, you're missing out. kate gosselin is bringing the lol's with her beyond awkward dancing and jimmy fallon took it upon himself to spoof the mom of 8 last night on his late night show. check it out above.

your new favorite movie
the trailer for what is sure to be one of this summer's biggest hits, dinner for schmucks, hit the internets today. the film stars paul rudd and steve carrell, two actors who have always had success at the box office together. check out the trailer above. schmucks is based on a british film with the same concept: to get a promotion, you have to bring the biggest dork to an office dinner party. sounds simple enough right? well, maybe not so much. comedy "it" guy zach galifinakis also costars.

day 2.237

book review: chelsea chelsea bang bang
this is the first time i've ever really done a book review on my blog, but i figured it was appropriate. i was flying back to school today (yep, spring break's over and it's back to too much work for me) and realized i didn't have a book packed to read - i wasn't interested in my school work at 9:30 in the morning. luckily the airport had a borders (i know that's not really lucky - more so normal - but run with it) and i knew what book i wanted. that book would be chelsea handler's latest offering, chelsea chelsea bang bang. i've read the late night comedian's two prior essay collections (my horizontal life and are you there vodka? it's me chelsea) so i knew i'd be up for this one. they're pretty quick reads - i was done with it by the time i got to my apartment at school - and super funny (duh). the only problem with them is that you look like a complete idiot giggling to yourself while reading. this is the first book to come out from chelsea since her talk show really took off, so a lot of the characters were a lore more familiar to me because i've seen them on tv. you don't have to imagine what they look like because you know. plus, this book includes pictures and who doesn't love pictures? this is also the first of handler's books to use her siblings real names. usually they're slightly tweaked, but apparently her sibs are now ok with people knowing who they are. it's actually part of the book's storyline. i definitely recommend chelsea chelsea bang bang, but forewarn you that it's a lot less about her promiscuous lifestyle (like its predecessors) and much more about the crazy people in her life. that's probably because handler was in a relationship with comcast boss ted harbert at the time. the duo have since split up, but their relationship provides plenty of lol's - i really shouldn't use that acronym according to chelsea, but oh well - and a good escape from the stress of the week ahead. check it out.

April 3, 2010

day 2.236

tina fey: dream woman?

i love tina fey. the former-snl funnywoman has teamed up with fellow must-see-tv-er michael scott (real name steve carell) for the sure to be hilarious date night, coming out next friday. i cannot wait to see this movie. i've been talking about it for a long, long, long time. like since they first announced it was being made. the cast also includes leighton meester, james franco, mark wahlberg and mila kunis. not too shabby, right? in preparation for the flick's release, tina and steve carell sat down to shoot two spots for cinemax...and hilarity ensues. check them out above and the movie in theaters april 9th. oh, and tina will be hosting snl the following night.

April 2, 2010
