movie review: the debt
an ass-kicking helen mirren? yes, please. the debt finally hit theaters this week. the story flashes between the 1960s and 1990s, following three intelligence operatives tasked with finding and capturing an infamous nazi surgeon, wanted for a war crimes trial in israel. the flick is fast paced and action packed, with the majority of the story taking place in 1960s germany. girl of the moment jessica chastain plays mirren's younger counterpart, rachel singer. rachel, david (sam worthington) and stefan (martin csokas) band together to track down the surgeon of birkenau. when they finally capture him, their plan goes awry and the trio must band together to figure out their next step. flash forward 30 plus years, and they're all national heroes for capturing the surgeon. but, are they telling the truth? after david mysteriously kills himself, rachel must confront her past and set the record straight- both historically and personally. with solid performances from both casts, the debt is a must-see ... even if the ending leaves you wanting more.
