day 142

svu minus two?
could law and order: svu return in the fall with two new stars? that might be the future of the show in these tough economic times. with their contracts up after the current season, current stars mariska hargitay and christopher meloni are banding together to get their pay checks bumped from the current $7 mil a season.  svu is the peacock's net top scripted drama (as well as the only law and order series that perform well), so you'd think the execs would want to keep the show running as smoothly as possible, right? while insiders are saying that any change in the show would definitely be a major issue for the network and retooling the show at this time just doesn't make sense, the network is looking to cut costs in order to stay afloat. the issue i see with any changes is that the show is already going to be hurting because its losing the 10/9 central time slot to the new primetime leno show; that makes any more changes more detrimental. svu recently took a dip in the ratings after show star mariska took a leave of absence due to a health scare. the show is definitely coming back for an 11th season, but we might not know how it'll look until the show's return in september.

kumar goes to washington
kal pen - who became famous as kumar in the harold and kumar films and most recently as dr. lawrence kutner on house - has decided to leave showbiz to play in the political big leagues. kal's house character will committed suicide in a surprise twist so that kal could easily leave the show. after working with the obama campaign, the actor has now been hired by the white house as the associate director of the office of public liason and intergovernmental affairs.  the position is a way for the white house to reach out to the public and make the political side of politics a little more friendly and relatable. kal will basically be the welcome wagon to the public at the white house. this should be interesting to see. i'm alway surprised when successful actors want to leave the hollywood hills for political dreams. why do so many actors and hollywood celebs want to invest themselves so heavily in politics? there's definitely more than just a simple correlation there...
