day 341

glee-king out
with the holiday season just around the corner, the creative forces behind glee are hoping to make the fox tv series this year's favorite stocking stuffer. with the already announced cd release packed with the most popular songs from the first half of the season, the show's first 13 episodes will also be released in time for christmas as glee: season 1, volume 1. that means current fans will be able to relive the first half of the premiere season before the back 9 episodes premiere at mid-season and new gleeks can be converted. but, that's not all. the cast will also release a cover of wham's "last christmas" just for download - it won't even be a part of the show. this is a huge move along the lines of the brady bunch. with the brady bunch, the kids sang on the show sometimes but also toured the country with a series of songs never performed on tv. with the amount of money glee singles have been pulling in on itunes, this move is pretty genius. the cast concert is in the planning stages, too, set for a summer 2010 tour. there's no word whether or not the cast will be performing in character or not, but i think that would be another genius move. it would be like watching an extra episode of the series live! and in even more branding and expanding, columbia records has a deal with the show to sign any of the talent to solo deals. columbia is the company putting out the series' soundtracks and made sure that the talent clause was in their contract with fox and glee. sounds like glee is going to become the first tv franchise outside of the disney-verse to hit every sector of the entertainment industry.
