day 311

party in the parking lot
ladies and gentlemen, it has arrived. the long awaited music video for miley cyrus's biggest single ever, "party in the usa," has finally premiered and, well, it's kind of disappointing. i don't know what i was expecting, but it wasn't this. i guess i wanted a more literal interpretation of the song - as in, she actually hops off a plane, sees the hollywood sign, et cetera. i guess i was expecting something that could be played on the disney channel, not mtv. the way miley's business is hanging out all over this vid is definitely not mouse house appropriate. maybe that's why the powers that be over at hollywood records decided to debut the vid during a commercial break of dancing with the stars on abc and not during and all new episode of hannah montana. the production value of the video is obvious - they spent some money - but it's just kind of basic until the end. why the whole video wasn't filmed in the end set (the weird playground/jungle thing and the flag screen backdrop) i don't know. the parking lot bits are kind of lack luster. and i don't understand why miley insists on not wearing "kicks." i'm sorry, kicks are sneakers - not boots! every time miley has performed the song, she's worn some sort of heeled boots. in the video, she wears cowboy boots. while that might be your personal style, that's not how the song goes. out of all the things that needed to be true to the lyrics, that's the only thing. the video concept and the lyrics don't really go together, which is the biggest failure in the video. however, most people who watch it don't care. they just want to hear the song.
