grammys noms
the nominees, my picks for winners and who i think got snubbed:
record of the year
- "rolling in the deep," adele
- "holocede," bon iver
- "grenade," bruno mars
- "the cave," mumford & sons
- "firework," katy perry
i mean, the only person who could beat adele would be adele if "someone like you" were nominated.
album of the year
- 21, adele
- wasting light, foo fighters
- born this way, lady gaga
- doo-wops and hooligans, bruno mars
- loud, rihanna
um adele. again. it's the year of adele, guys. my only question- why not katy perry's teenage dream? unless the album was only up for a nomination last year ... i'm too lazy to check into the grammy rules and regulations. but, that has to be a reason, because there's no way one of the most successful female pop albums of all time doesn't get a nomination.
song of the year
- "all of the lights," kanye featuring everyone
- "the cave," mumford & sons
- "grenade," bruno mars
- "holocene," bon iver
- "rolling in the deep," adele
adele.
best new artist
- the band perry
- bon iver
- j. cole
- nicki minaj
- skrillex
guys, i've actually heard of all the nominees this year! i would choose nicki minaj, but based on the other nominations this year, expect bon iver to grad this award. even though they've been around for at least five years.
best pop solo performance
- "someone like you," adele
- "you and i," lady gaga
- "grenade," bruno mars
- "firework," katy perry
- "f-in perfect," p!nk
this is the one adele-centric award i can see not-adele taking home. and by non-adele, i mean p!nk.
best pop duo/group performance
- "body and soul," tony bennett and amy winehouse
- "dearest," the black keys
- "paradise," coldplay
- "pumped up kicks," foster the people
- "moves like jagger," maroon 5 feat. christina aguilera
this is a tricky category. they could give it to "body and soul" as a way to pay remembrance to amy winehouse, or go with one of the biggest songs of the year- "moves like jagger," which could be squeaked out by "pumped up kicks" for all i know.
best pop vocal album
- 21, adele
- the lady killer, cee-lo green
- born this way, lady gaga
- loud, rihanna
- doo-wops and hooligans, bruno mars
really? vocals = adele.
best rock performance
- "every teardrop is a waterfall," coldplay
- "down by the water," the decemberists
- "walk," foo fighters
- "the cave," mumford & sons
- "lotus flower," radiohead
mr. gwyneth paltrow. hands down.
best rap/sung collaboration
- "party," beyonce featuring andre 3000
- "i'm on one," dj khaled, drake, rick ross and lil wayne
- "i need a doctor," dr. dre, eminem and skylar grey
- "what's my name," rihanna featuring drake
- "motivation," kelly rowland and lil wayne
- "all of the lights," kanye, rihanna, kid cudi and fergie
will they give it to beyonce because she missed out on every other nomination, or rihanna for one of the catchiest songs of the year? i'm thinking riri.
best rap song
- "all of the lights," kanye featuring everyone
- "black and yellow," wiz khalifa
- "i need a doctor," dr. dre, eminem and skylar grey
- "look at me now," chris brown featuring busta rhymes and lil wayne
- "otis," jay-z and kanye
- "the show goes on," lupe fiasco
watch the throne. watch the throne. watch the throne. if that album doesn't win one grammy it'll be a major issue. for me and everyone else.
best rap album
- watch the throne, kanye west and jay-z
- the carter iv, lil wayne
- lasers, lupe fiasco
- pink friday, nicki minaj
- my beautiful dark twisted fantasy, kanye west
while "superbass" was one of the songs of the year, pink friday really isn't that great of an album. know what a great album is? watch the throne.

leann rimes wants "someone like you," too
she might be a homewrecker. she might have let tabloid tales overtake her career. but- girl can still sing. check out former country cutie leann rimes' take on adele's "someone like you" (above). too bad she has to perform it at state fairs and other less-than-stellar outlets.

the x factor: better than bieber
my favorite performance from this week's show.
adele wants "someone like you"
the current diva of soul pop premiered her latest video for new single "someone like you." adele, in paris. what's not to like?

the vmas, 2011
here are the highlights, the winners and the what just happened moments.
gaga opened the show. as a man. and then continued to act as this man (jo calderone) for the remainder of the show. she's special. really special.
these two can do no wrong. ok, kanye can. but never, never jay.
if "shutting it down" were in the dictionary, this performance would be next to it.
this was great, but i have two questions: 1) why were children performing it? 2) why wasn't this a medley of britney songs performed by today's younger pop stars?
best vma performance ever? i mean she's currently carrying jay-z's baby. or is it destiny's child? (see what i did there?)
rip amy.
because it makes so much sense to perform a song that requires 95% bleeping.
as far as the winners:
- video of the year- katy perry, "firework"
- best female video- lady gaga, "born this way"
- best new artist- tyler, the creator
- video vanguard- britney spears
- best male video- justin bieber, "u smile"
- best collaboration- katy perry ft. kanye west, "e.t."
- best hip hop video- nicki minaj, "super bass"
- best rock video- foo fighters, "walk"
- best pop video- britney spears, "till the world ends"
- best video with a message- lady gaga, "born this way"

2011 video music awards: the nominations
my take on who will win big, who got snubbed and surprise nominations for this years video music awards.
best pop video
- adele, "rolling in the deep"
- britney spears, "till the world ends"
- bruno mars, "grenade"
- katy perry, "last friday night (t.g.i.f)"
- pitbull ft. ne-yo, nayer and afrojack, "give me everything"
i mean, it's the best video ever. like of all time. adele's all about the voice, so i can't see her winning for a video where she sits all by herself. britney's done better, and bruno/pitbull don't stand a chance. but- big oversight not putting rihanna or j.lo on this list.
best new artist
- big sean ft. chris brown, "my last"
- foster the people, "pumped up kicks"
- kreayshawn, "gucci gucci"
- tyler, the creator, "yonkers"
- wiz khalifa, "black and yellow"
this one will come down to who votes- the hipsters or the too-hip-to-be-a-hipster crowd. if the hipsters show up, expect foster the people to take the moonman home. if everyone else shows up? wiz khalifa. but where are ellie goulding and jesse j?
best female video
- adele, "rolling in the deep"
- beyonce, "run the world (girls)"
- katy perry, "firework"
- lady gaga, "born this way"
- nicki minaj, "super bass"
adele? again- she's sitting in a room. alone. beyonce? that song flopped. if her billboard music awards performance were nominated it would be a different story. and "born this way" is the weirdest effing video to come out in a decade. it comes down to katy vs. nicki here, and nicki's candy-colored rap fantasy's more likely to take the trophy than perry's inspirational firework-sparking boobs.
best male video
- bruno mars, "grenade"
- cee-lo green, "f*ck you"
- eminem ft. rihanna, "love the way you lie"
- justin bieber, "u smile"
- kanye west ft. kid cudi and rihanna, "all of the lights"
this is a "duh" to me- cee-lo all the way.
best collaboration
- chris brown ft. busta rhymes and lil' wayne, "look at me now"
- kanye west ft. kid cudi and rihanna, "all of the lights"
- katy perry ft. kanye west, "et"
- nicki minaj ft. drake, "moment for life"
- pitbull ft ne-yo, nayer and afrojack, "give me everything"
i would say eminem and rihanna were a lock for this category for "love the way you lie," but they weren't nominated! based on video, katy perry and kanye will win this title, but all the nominees are viable options.
video of the year
- adele, "rolling in the deep"
- beastie boys, "make some noise"
- bruno mars, "grenade"
- katy perry, "firework"
- tyler, the creator, "yonkers"
this category is much more about the song than the video, making it adele's to lose. adele's four fellow nominees seem completely random. the beastie boys? really? and "last friday night" is way better than "firework."

can we talk about this?
adele. covering bonnie raitt's "i can't make you love me." it's like my childhood and 20something-dom are coming together, and it's awesome. check out the video above, from adele's recent performance at the itunes music festival, and try not to replay it over, and over, and over again. really, try.
repost- movie review: horrible bosses

repost- movie review: horrible bosses
the boys are back. after bridesmaids aimed to takeover the raunchy buddy-com, horrible bosses sneaks in to reclaim the territory. jason bateman, jason sudeikis and charlie day star as three best friends fed up with their, well, horrible bosses. nick (bateman) can't stand uber-manipulator harken (kevin spacey), dale can't seem to doge the advances of nymphomaniac dentist julia (jennifer aniston) and kurt struggles to communicate with bobby (colin farrell), who fell into his job through nepotism. the three friends jokingly talk about killing their bosses, but hypothetical soon turns real. wouldn't their live be some much better if their bosses just disappeared? the guys think so, hiring motherfucker jones (jamie foxx) to do the dirty work. what unfolds is a hilarious series of unfortunate events, coincidences and accidents. this is charlie day, mostly known for his work on fx's it's always sunny in philadelphia, breakout role, ala zach galifianakis in the hangover. the movie is packed with laughs from start to finish. mix that with its unpredictable nature and horrible bosses is set to be the movie of the summer.
