last night, jimmy fallon hosted the 63rd annual emmy awards. the emmys are my third favorite award show (oscars, golden globes, emmys), but jimmy's hosting gave the globes a run for their money. helping bring almost 200,000 more viewers to this years telecast, jimmy brought an enthusiasm to the show that's hard to come by. his years of improv training and quick wit helped keep the show's pace up and kept it on time, a rarity in the award show circuit. the show opened with a glee-themed skit and song/dance number check out the skit and performance below. it features glee stars alongside jimmy, tina fey, kate gosselin, john hamm, betty white and more.
ok, and for the winners:
supporting actor, comedy: eric stonestreet, modern family
supporting actress, comedy: jane lynch, glee
outstanding actor, comedy: jim parsons, the big bang theory
supporting actress, drama: archie panjabi, the good wife
outstanding actor, drama: bryan cranston, breaking bad
outstanding actress, drama: kyra sedgwick, the closer
outstanding drama series: mad men
outstanding comedy series: modern family
i really couldn't be happier with the choices. from all the shows i do watch, the people i wanted to (though i highly doubted would!) won. and for the shows i don't watch, the deserving people won...from what i've read. it was a night of surprises, as stonestreet, parsons, falco and sedgwick, amongst others, were all favored to lose against more "commercial" stars. it seems as if entertainment politics were pushed away in favor of the deserving winners. for the full list of winners and to watch clips from the show, click here.
dancing with the stars: the next generation
the new cast of dwts was just announced live on abc. as per usual, it's more "they used to be stars" than "they currently are a star." anyway, here's the line-up:
brandy,singer/actress/reality star
jennifer grey, actress (dirty dancing)
margaret cho, actress/comedian
audrina patridge, reality tv star (the hills)
florence henderson, actress (the brady bunch)
bristol palin, sarah palin's daughter (yes, that's her only title)
michael bolton, singer
mike "the situation" sorentino, reality tv star (the situation)
david hasselhoff, actor (baywatch)
kurt warner, nfl quarterback
kyle massey, actor (that's so raven)
rick fox, retired nba player/actor
the new season of dancing with the stars kicks off monday, september 20th on abc.
if you're not watching dancing with the stars this season, you're missing out. kate gosselin is bringing the lol's with her beyond awkward dancing and jimmy fallon took it upon himself to spoof the mom of 8 last night on his late night show. check it out above.
your new favorite movie
the trailer for what is sure to be one of this summer's biggest hits, dinner for schmucks, hit the internets today. the film stars paul rudd and steve carrell, two actors who have always had success at the box office together. check out the trailer above. schmucks is based on a british film with the same concept: to get a promotion, you have to bring the biggest dork to an office dinner party. sounds simple enough right? well, maybe not so much. comedy "it" guy zach galifinakis also costars.
this season of dancing with the stars may be the most star studded one the series has seen. seriously. the cast is made up of just 11 stars this season, instead of the usual 14-16. this year the cast includes a reality tv staple, one of the most recognizable women in america, an astronaut, an olympian and more. here's the run down: kate gosselin was the first celeb to leak this morning. the reality mom is sure to be a fan favorite if she's able to dance. the show is even letting the newly extension-haired mom practice at home in pennsylvania so she can be with her kids. former 90210 bad girl shannen doherty is making her way back to tv as one of the hoofers this season. i can see doherty having a super competitive spirit and taking it all. hopefully she can dance. or at least pull a tonya harding on someone. just kidding (but only kind of - i'd love some drama). pamela anderson will also be squeezing herself into some of the dancing costumes this season. that should be interesting to watch, to say the least. chad ochocinco - the wide receiver for the bengals - will be making his dancing debut, too. football players always do well, so i expect a lot from him. aiden turner is the one "no name" on the list. he's apparently a soap star. don't expect him to last long. espn staple erin andrews is also taking to the dance floor. the sideline reporter had quite the controversy surrounding her last year with that whole naked peeping-tom photography thing so this is a good way to give herself a good public name again. the most surprising dancer this season is buzz aldrin, the first man on the moon. yeah, what? aldrin is 80 years old. if he doesn't already have a fake hip, he'll probably need one after this season. the most entertaining cast member this season will probably be comedian niecy nash. love her, but i can see her stint being short. the biggest shocker for me was nicole scherzinger, the lead singer for the pussycat dolls. she actually has a career! this does not bode well for the future of that group, which has been losing members left and right. i think it's down to three. evan lysacek is the olympian on the list. he's kind of america's golden boy right now and olympians tend to win this game. he'll probably be the strongest male. the final contender is - what a shocker - jake pevelka, the current bachelor. what a cross over. jake made his final decision tonight and picked vienna. or as i like to refer to her, sausage. i'm sure she'll be there to cheer him on each week. ugh.
there's no word on who will take over hosting duties form samantha harris yet, but my bet is on melissa rycroft. the former bachelor babe and dwts competitor helped make the announcements tonight, but was credited as "special guest." her contract ink just probably isn't dry yet. and, no, that's not a cast photo. i'm not even sure it's from the american version of the show. oh well.
last night, dancing with the stars paid tribute to the late king of pop through a dance medley of some of his greatest hits. it's been four months since mj died and, needless to say, the tribute was a little late. i guess it's good to remind people of michael 1) around the time they'd probably start to forget and 2) around the time of his concert movie, this is it, being released. the dance isn't horrible, but it's not like it 's all that entertaining either. and bringing out latoya jackson was just unnecessary. does she have some sort of contract with abc? she got to guest host the view and now this? too much latoya.
new music: chris brown and john mayer
after the release of rihanna's new single yesterday, chris has taken the opportunity to one-up her. first, he announces he'll be going on a fan appreciation tour starting next month. and now he's released another new song from his upcoming album, "crawl." a few weeks ago "transform ya" leaked online. it's reportedly the first single from chris' upcoming album. "crawl" is better than rihanna's new offering and in line with chris' previous music outings. check it out above.
after a lukewarm reception to lead single "who says," john mayer has released both a new song and video today: "heartbreak warfare." the song is much better than "who says," but in the same droopy duldrums genre. i miss the happy, go free sounds of "bigger than my body" and "your body is a wonderland," not this sad mopey stuff. what did jennifer aniston do to john that he's so emotional? check out the song above and pray that there's at least one upbeat track on john's upcoming release.
there's a couple videos making the rounds today featuring some famous faces. first up, sarah silverman and her plot to end world hunger. in the video the star makes the seemingly brilliant idea (unless you're catholic) to sell the vatican. yep, the whole thing. my favorite line? "maybe it's time to move out of your house that is a city." check it out - and possibly get offended - below.
the other video getting attention is of amy winehouse making a not so triumphant return to performing on britain's version of dancing with the stars, strictly dancing. the rehab-ed star joined the show for one night to support her god daughter (yes, someone entrusted their daughter's life to amy winehouse) dionne bromfield, an up-and-coming singer over seas. it's a good thing that amy wasn't the main draw because, well, it probably wouldn't have been that great. whoever decided to give amy winehouse choreography must have been under the influence because it was definitely not a good idea. it just drew attention to her...lack of coordination. the singer's voice was barely audible either, leading many to speculate her mic was turned off completely. there's also a rumor that amy wanted to appear healthier and did so by - wait for it - getting breast implants. the skinny star was reportedly in the hospital just a week before recovering from the surgery that allegedly took her from a small b cup to a d cup. i couldn't really tell in this video, but a surgery fix is not the same as actually getting healthy, amy.
dancing with...the not-so-rich rich and shameless?
the new cast of abc's dancing with the stars was released today (and announced on good morning america, above) and, well, it kind of blows. though rumors were circulating that "names" like paula abdul, lou ferrigno, and dean mcdermott-spelling would be hoofing it this season, that wasn't the case. instead, the following people were chosen by abc.
1. aaron carter - what!? i guess every season needs the "recovering addict" to pull at the viewers' heartstrings, but i'm not sure i can look at that acne scarred face for an entire season. aaron is one the youngest contestant this season, but i don't see young "fans" keeping him in. the only time he was famous or popular was when he was locked in a disney love triangle with hilary duff and lindsay lohan. his official bio on abc.com claims he is a talented "singer-songwriter, producer, and actor." um, since when?
2. ashley hamilton - yeah, i didn't really know who he is either. the only time i've ever heard his name is when people are talking about shannon doherty's ex's. apparently, ashley is george hamilton's (that orange man in the ritz crackers commercials who competed on season 2 of the show) son. apparently, ashley has written songs for the likes of hilary duff and sugar ray (what accomplishments) along with acting bit parts on canceled shows like oz. the reason ash can compete this season is because, like all the other competitors, he doesn't really have a job right now...other than being a "comedian." how can you be a singer-songwriter-actor-comedian? unless you're jamie foxx.
3. chuck liddell - you won't recognize this name unless you're a fan of ultimate fighting and i'm going to go out on a limb and say that none of my readers are. obviously, finding "famous" men willing to dance in tight costumes and we have to settle for the likes of chuck "iceman" liddell (because he's obviously used to wearing next-to-nothing so a shirt/pant combo is probably a refreshing change for him). like everyone this season apparently, chuck has dabbled in film with such masterpieces as 300, cradle 2 the grave, and drillbit taylor. he's also the author of the book iceman: my fighting life. obviously, that's on my reading list now.
4. debi mazar - the only reason i know who this is is because i loved the movie beethoven 2 when i was little and she played the bitchy villain. most recently, debi's been playing opposite "movie star" (i use that term loosely because his new movie, the goods, pretty much tanked this weekend at the box office) jeremy piven on entourage.
5. donny osmond - following in his sister's cooky footsteps, donny is taking the stage this season. hopefully he won't pull a "i fainted but not really because it was just a ploy to get votes and stay on the show" like his doll-designer sister. currently, donny shares the stage with his sister in an inexplicably successful revue in las vegas, the perfect place for mormons.
6. joanna krupa - allegedly a "supermodel," i only know her name from watching this summer's defunct show the superstars. if she brings with same bitchy attitude to dwts as she did to superstars, she'll be fun to watch - though she doesn't have t.o. to direct her anger at. other than her reality show career, i can't tell where her experience in modeling - let alone the entertainment industry - comes from.
7. kathy ireland - an actual model (!) though her career ended over 10 years ago. kathy is one of two stars this season who recently graced the cover of people as poster children for weight loss (more on the other star later). she also "designs" a line of home goods and furniture as well as a clothing line for kmart. with that in mind, feel free to make assumptions.
8. kelly osbourne - a "singer, actress, and media personality," according to abc.com, kelly is best known as the daughter of ozzy and sharon osbourne. she's no stranger to reality tv (she was on the first one that followed "media personalities" - the osbournes) and had some success as a musical artist. if she's the dwts audience's cup of tea remains to be seen.
9. louie vito - if your mind functions like mine, the first thing that graced your mind when you saw this name was "who?" apparently, louie is a professional snowboarder. again, it's hard to find men willing to dance and who have time to commit to the show. louie is this season's resident midget at just 5 foot 5 inches.
10. macy gray - remember that song "i try?" the one that sounded like some sort of transvestite was singing it? yeah, macy sang that. that's about all her career has amounted to, but, hey, i'm sure she made a ton of money off of it. i would be shocked if "i try" wasn't used as one of the songs macy dances to. and the only reason she's doing this has to be that she's recording an album that is soon-to-be released. she knows how to self promote - remember that dress she wore to an mtv awards show that proclaimed "my album drops [insert random date here]?"
11.mark decascos - the only way you'll recognize this face (or name if you're good with those) is if you watch iron chef america. yes, the host of that show - the one who screams out the secret ingredient and then lets alton brown do everything else - is competing on dancing with the stars this year.
12. melissa joan hart - sabrina! yay! i've been a longtime fan of clarissa and the way she explained it all, so having mjh on this season is a big draw for me. mj is the other celeb to recently grace the cover of people mag proclaiming that her body was "hot" once again and has mentioned in the past that she's always wanted to be on the show and that the producers routinely turned her down. sounds a little desp to me. i was surprised to see hart's name on the list this morning because she and her family recently relocated to the east coast to be closer to her sick mother. oh well. getting sabrina back on tv means no explanation needed to me.
13.michael irvin - the always present sports star this season. a former member of the dallas cowboys football league, irvin is supposed to be the draw for the uber male this season (ie the men who are forced to watch the show because of their wives). he'll probably do rather well on the show because football players, in the past, have all been pretty light on their feet - surprisingly.
14. mya - her singing career has been over since "lady marmalade" so dwts was probably her publicists solution for reminding people that she's not the r&b who died in a plane crash (that was aaliyah, fyi).
15. natalie coughlin - this season's answer to last year's champ shawn johnson (i'm still bitter she beat out both melissa and gilles), natalie is a gold-winning olympic swimmer. there's really no other facts to talk about, but almost all gold medal winning olympians have taken home the mirrored ball trophy on the show.
16. tom delay - yes, that tom delay. the former majority leader of the republican party was apparently the "surprise" contestant this season. i'm not really surprised at his willingness to participate in the show, just more surprised that the casting department thought he was a "get." he'll probably be the first to go.
and that's that. the show's 9th season (yes, it's already been that many) of dwts premieres september 21st and lasts 3 nights, ending on wednesday the 23rd. the show has more contestants than usual this time around, so special "double eliminations" will be held during the middle of the season and will knock out about half of the contestants. so, basically, there's no point in having all these randos. oh well. i'm just pissed samantha harris is returning as host. her robot voice and michelle obama arms are disconcerting.
with televisions biggest shows coming to an end for the season (american idol, dancing with the stars) a lot of dramz is going (and went down). last night, shawn johnson was named winner of dancing with the stars. i know what you're thinking "what the fuck?" yeah, that's what i thought, too. the little gymnastic munchkin didn't even appear to be a fan fave until lil kim got kicked off before her. what was american thinking? shawn johnson, really? and while some people are saying that no olympian has never lost the show, that's not true. while apollo anton ono and kristi yamaguchi did take the disco ball trophy, last season's maurice green only made it to 5th place and he's a gold medalist. hmm. so there goes that theory. i guess people just like little people dancing? i was full on for melissa rycroft, last season's the bachelor "winner," but the judges kind of threw her under the bus and she only got 3rd place. when that happened, i expected gille marini to take the trophy, but he lost by 1 percent. oh well, better luck next season. but, if abc is smart, i think they should buy samantha harris out of her contract (pretty much because i cannot stand the way she interviews people) and keep melissa around as the new cohost ... over at idol, kris and adam performed their final 3 songs (well, until they have to do a bunch of production numbers tonight) and i really don't care which one of them wins. and not in a good way - i find neither of them to be american idols/pop stars. at least kris can play multiple instruments, giving him a musical advantage. as far as i know, adam (aka glambert) can't play any. plus, the amount of make-up he wears just freaks me out. i really think idol messed up this season; the voting processes were all wrong - you cannot do the show with an uneven number of boys and girls, it just doesn't work. plus, no matter how many tween girls vote, idol will always be a girls' game - the only successful winners have been female (kelly, carrie, and jordin). but, i guess we'll see who takes the title tonight. hopefully whoever wins will give the boot to the winning song, co-written by new judge kara dio guardi (who is reportedly returning, which i think is a good thing. randy jackson needs to go - kara says the same things, but with real advice for the contestants beyond "it was aight/tight/pitchy, dawg"). after the episode - which was the lowest rated idol finale ever - was finished taping last night, simon cowell's former lady love and current extra correspondent, terri seymour, was attacked outside the studio. seymour was targeted outside the nokia theater last night because of her close association with the idol judge, according to the lapd. seymour's attacker was a 200 lb + female (that's probably twice terri's size) who asked the tv personality if she was "that woman from tv" and if she was simon's former flame. the woman was taken into custody right away and, as of now, isn't considered a threat. geez, who knew a fun singing competition could get so violent.
this isn't so much of a story, but a blurb/tweet-worthy - i still thought it was pertinent to your understanding of the world. okay, not really. i just really live lindsay lohan and her mess of a life, which includes her mother. lindsay's mother, donata aka dina, always says she doesn't want to be famous, yet will take any moment she can to get some press. hypocritical much? aside from her self-promotion on her e! tv program, living lohan (which is supposed to return sometime this year), dina has taken to talking about lindsay's "projects" like her life depended on it. we all know about lindsay's funnyordie eharmony skit, and dina would like you to know it was her idea. dina told entertainment tonight that she approached lindsay about doing funnyordie because she thought it would be a great, funny way to tackle the rumors. really? did dina sell the rights to lindsay's story to us weekly, too? the two "outlets" seem pretty contradictory - are you making fun of your life or taking it too seriously. make up your minds lohans :). oh and lindsay's extended fam is apparently taking measures to send the starlet back to rehab. obvi dina is not involved, as she recently dropped lindsay off at a club (see vid above).
gwyneth paltrow has frenemies?
after a recent post on her living site/newsleter goop.com, people are starting to speculate as to who gwyneth is meaning by the "person [who] really did what they could to hurt me." here's the letter as it appeared on the site:
all fingers are pointing to gwyneth's former gal-pal winona rider. the duo were inseparable throughout the 90s until gwyn won the role of viola in the 1998 oscar winner shakespeare in love. tensions grew especially when gwyn took home the little gold man for her role, too. and could the "something unfortunate" be winona's legal troubles after her five-finger discount? hmm...i'll let you decide for yourself.
everybody cut footloose!
what was once a vehicle for musical megastar zac efron - who takes his first step as a non-disney leading man in tomorrow's 17 again (this movie could make or break his career) - kenny ortega's musical remake of kevin bacon 80's classic footloose is shaping up to be a chance to launch two new movie careers. gossip girl star chace crawford is said to be this close to signing on to the project and filling zac's (probably tiny) shoes. this would be chace's first big screen outing as a leading man, other than 2008's little seen horror flick the haunting of molly hartley. can chace even sing? let's hope so - footloose's soundtrack is set to be a big hit if the movie does make it past pre-production. another surprise casting news? dancing with the stars' and rising country star julianne hough has reportedly auditioned and is being strongly considered for the leading lady role in the flick. julianne has said that the next natch (that's natural for my non-abreve inclined friends) step in career evolution would be acting. plus, a musical would make complete sense with her singing career and all. let's just hope chace doesn't back out - julianne's bro derek hough is said to be the crew's second choice (technically third after zac) and i don't know about you but i don't need to see any incest on the big screen.
on sunday night, julianne hough took home the top new artist award at this year's acm awards and, with that, i guess she got a boost of confidence. the dancer-turned singer will not be returning to the show that launched her career when its next season launches in the fall, but will rather focus on her ever growing music career. hopefully it will all work out for her - she really had only one single from her debut album and it did just okay. julianne says she wasn;t even planning on coming back for the current installment of the dance competition, but, when her beau (country crooner chuck wicks) was offered a spot as a contestant, she couldn't let him perform with anyone else. rather than devoting most of her time to teaching ballroom routines to clumsy stars, julianne will tour for the rest of 2009 with new and old material. the only time we'll see her back on the dancing stage is as a musical act (which i'm sure will turn into a regular yearly gig). i'm just wondering why she decided to announce this right now. maybe hoping for a voting boost so that she can finish the show on a high note...and with a mirrored ball trophy to boot. plus, it would make julianne the pro with the most wins to her name on the alphabet net's signature show.
cameras keep going sans conrad
the hills are still alive...and filming episodes about lauren. even though lauren conrad finished up all the filming she was contractually obligated to do for the season in march, cameras continue to role with audrina and co and the material that's being filmed involves lauren. are you confused yet? how is this possible? before lauren's contract with mtv ran out, producers of the ever popular "reality" series filmed lauren reacting a variety of scenarios that might play out though the season finale to keep fans satisfied as they watched the canned plots. for example, you know the brody/audrina hook-up that's been advertised in the "this season..." segments? that was all staged because the producers had footage of lauren's reactions. another proposed story line? a stephanie pratt pregnancy. lauren reacted by giggling and then putting on her best acting skills to give a great performance. but, mtv doesn't want you to know this - they're motto is deny, deny, deny. in other hills news, heidi montag has publicly admitted that the show doesn't need lauren. how, i don't know. "we'll miss her...i just don't know if we need her" were heidi's exact words. heidi is garnering to take lauren's lead spot in the series, but how would her life play out on camera? she has no life to film without her battles with conrad. that's why producers are angling for a stephanie pratt led series. pratt is being featured heavily this season and has even been added into the opening credits of the series (but without name cred). with audrina leaving the show, it's really the only thing that makes sense.
my favorite hot mess: lindsay lohan
i have officially chosen to name lindsay lohan as my favorite hot mess. not only is her career dying a slow, painful death, but so is her love life. now that she and samantha ronson are officially over, news is breaking that lalohan has caused quite the rift in the ronson family. last week, sam's family allegedly staged an intervention with sam in hopes of getting lindsay out of her life for good. now, the family is said to be working towards a restraining order to keep the hollywood darling away from saman. as well, sam's sister, charlotte, was overheard discussing the matter of lindsay with a clerk at the chateau marmont. charlotte is positive that lindsay is on drugs and that explains her erratic behavior, which included sneaking into the ronson's room illegally at the chateau. after being denied entrance into charlotte's party, lindsay rented the room directly below the ronson's at the hotel and stayed up all night trying to get their attention. charlotte's friend also brought out the idea that lindsay needs more than just addiction help; she needs psychiatric help. lindsay is allegedly a cutter, as both an attention seeking action and as a coping mechanism. i can only hope the girl will be able to get things together soon.
get daily updates from by following dirtylaundry on twitter: https://twitter.com/dirty__laundry!
even before the show has premiered, two female contestants have had to drop out of the newest season of dancing with the stars due to knee injuries. jewel is officially out of the competition, after about a week of speculation that she would have to bow out, as is access hollywood host nancy o'dell, who tore her meniscus. the alphabet net made the announcement today and confirmed rumors that holly madison of the girls next door will be stepping into jewel's high heels. as soon as abc made the decision, holly's ex hugh hefner went on record as saying he helped get holly the spot because it's been a dream of hers to dance on the famous stage, which will have a whole new look this season - the entire set has been revamped, according to dancing pro cheryl burke. so who will take over for nancy o'dell? that's open to speculation. no one has been announced and i don't think the network was ready for two female stars to bow out so soon. there's also talk that gilles marini, of sex and the city: the movie fame, has torn the meniscus in his shoulder. will he have to step down, too? as for now, gilles is sticking it out, but an announcement might be made in the next couple of days if he has to pull out, too. it seems like this season of dancing is quite the cursed one. we'll see how this all plays out when the eighth edition of the series kicks off monday night.
chris brown, not on lockdown
chris brown is going to have to wait another month until his arraignment. his official court date was today but the judge is giving the tabloid target until april 6th to find out his fate. chris did the unexpected and did not enter a plea bargain before court, even though his legal team has been working on various strategies over the past few days. that pretty much means chris doesn't want to admit that he's guilty. because of the hearing, the official police report was released today. the whole incidence did begin because rihanna found text messages from another woman on chris' phone - not because she gave him herpes. the big news about the whole chris/rihanna drama is that the duo got engaged. neither star's rep would comment on the impending marriage because of the ongoing trial, which makes me believe that the story is true. if it weren't, wouldn't you want to deny it? chris is also said to have hired extra security and is halting all communication between rihanna and her family. this is starting to sound like a britney-adnan-sam lutfi/whitney-bobby thing. leave rihanna alone!
michael jackson's final bow
michael jackson is feeling the pinch of the recession. the former king of pop is putting on his final ten london performances (ever) - his first in nearly a decade - under the title "this is it" at london's o2 arena, starting in july. posters went up late last night/this morning at tube stations all over the uk, with a press conference with the strange star happening in the afternoon. at least wacko jacko was able to put the rumors that he is dying to rest. this concert series is said to be three years in the making; that's how long it took jackson's team and producers in london to come to an agreement. i guess that's why he's been so low key the past few years? he wasn't sure if he would be going on tour or not! the buzz is that jackson will make $10 million for the performances. not a bad deal. jackson's last performance was his solo 20th anniversary concert at madison square garden in 2001, with his last tour having ended in 1997. if you're interested in hopping the pond, tickets for the show go on sale march 13th.
glamour magazine has decided to honor some of the most fearless fashion icons of the past 7 decades. click here to see the complete catalog of the honorees, each of whom is portrayed by a different up-and-comer. emma stone, of superbad and the house bunny, takes on carrie bradshaw's iconic tutu from the opening credits of sex and the city, alexis bledel of gilmore girls and the sisterhood of the traveling pants movies assumes the role of rosie the riveter, emma roberts, julia's niece and nickelodeon star, pays homage to audrey hepburn in funny face, and lindsay lohan takes on madonna, among others. it's interesting to see who the editors at glamour thought were modern stars who were respectful enough to take this on. lindsay lohan? really? at least she got madonna - the most risque of the honorees. alicia keys as first lady michelle obama was interesting to see, too. hopefully this will become a yearly tradition for the mag; it's one of the most fun photo shoots i've seen recently.
dancing gets another star?
holly madison, hugh hefner's former girlfriend, is set to strap on her dancing shoes. the problem? there aren't any open spots on this season's cast. holly is this season's "back-up." every season, the show cast one extra guy and one extra girl in case one of their stars gets injured before the show begins. this season, holly madison is set to take over for jewel. jewel recently injured her leg/knee/ankle in pre-season practices and is currently trying to gain her strength back in time to dance on monday's premiere. but, if jewel does back up, holly will strap on the sequins and heels. something she should be used to, right? holly would definitely bring in the male vote. my question is, if jewel leaves the show, does that mean her unfamous rodeo husband ty murray will leave to? what's the point of having him on if jewel's gone? in other dancing news, it turns out the only reason lil' kim agreed to come on the show was because of her former fellow inmates. kim said that the only show she and her fellow prisoners could agree on to watch monday nights was dancing with the stars. so, she's really just paying back her "sisters."
britney's back
britney spears kicked off her circus tour last night in her home state of louisiana to some of the best reviews of her career. while the star did lip synch, isn't it expected of her? the only negative comment that came out of her almost two hour act was the lack of audience interaction - britney only talked to the audience at the very end of the concert to say goodnight and thank you. my thoughts are that she was nervous and, therefore, did not want to get her mind off track. the more performances she does, the more likely she is to start talking. while britney was "miming" (as the english call it), she rerecorded all her vocals so they sounded more "live." check out a video of her entrance above. brit's tour continues through june and tickets are starting to go for upwards of $300. check out this youtube page to see more performances from the show. i don't understand why no network attempted to get the rights to a recorded version of the concert. hopefully she'll put out a dvd once it's all said and done.
two of dancing with the stars' most popular professionals, karina smirnoff and maksim chmerkovsly, have decided to tie the knot. the couple, who have been quietly seeing each other since smirnoff's split with notorious womanizer mario lopez about 6 months ago, decided to literally ring in the new year, getting engaged just before 2009 rolled around. no official statement from the pair has been released, but should be coming shortly. the engagement happened in between tour dates on the latest dwts tour, which will conclude just before production starts on the latest season, which begins in march.
a real housewife's real life
the real housewives of atlanta star kim zolciak has decided to reach out to the internet to keep in touch with her many "fans" with a blog, kimzolciakonline.com. the aspiring actor and singer will post pictures, videos, and essays about her life throughout 2009, with her first posting being yesterday, about her carribean vacation. although kim said she would be releasing a country record sometime in the new year, it doesn't look like that will be happening. the record company she "name dropped" on the bonnie hunt show doesn't even exist and her meetings with megaproducer dallas austin were apparently staged for the show. however, the "30 year old" single mother seems to have found a new sugar daddy. after her split from married entrepreneur lee najjar - who bought her cadillac and other presents seen on the show - kim has started dating billionaire dr. stefan lemperle. a second season of the show is sure to happen, as the installment in the real housewives series was the most watched ever. the latest season of the orange county edition is currently on the air and the new york housewives return in february.
new dancing with the stars champ brooke burke has gotten a little tv greedy. the former e! personality wants her own sitcom as a follow up to her dancing success. while sitcoms are good working hours for moms, do we really want to see another model-turned-actress?
could robyn be the mother on how i met your mother? actress cobie smulders is pregnant with her first child. that means both the leading ladies of the cbs comedy are pregnant, as allison hannigan recently announced her own pregnancy. no word on whether or not the pregnancies will be written in, but the looks of this prospective are negative - allison was recently shown in a flowy dress when being interviewed about jamie lynn-sigler's guest starring role. as well, both of the star's pregnancies will mainly be in the hiatus period of the season.
heidi and spencer's marriage is not legal. the hill's resident villian couple has confirmed that their mexican nuptials are not legally binding in the us, but mtv's cameras just happened to be tagging along on the mexican vacation where the elopement took place. whether or not the couple make their new union legal is yet to be seen, but lets hope the two decide against it.
wtf oprah?
oprah winfrey left her latest audience hanging as she replaced her usual favorite things with a "how to have a thrifty holiday season" special. while this idea is all well and good, people want to see the ridiculous things oprah finds to give away (anyone remember those air-lifted $50
cupcakes from a few years ago?). while her excuse was that is the lavish special was not appropriate in the current economy, having the special would have made the current situation better. people like stability and the expected; oprah's change just makes times seem worse. oprah's one gift to her audience was a gift about a man and his dog; she told everyone to give a copy to their friends with dogs, writing an inscription for both the dog and owner. if i were to give a copy, the inscription would read "here's a book for you and your bitch, bitch," given the dog is a girl, of course.
what's hollywood's new star to do?
twilight star kristin stewart was snapped smoking something from a suspicious pipe just days after her new film became number 1 at the box office. this and other pics can be found over at tmz. kristin recently revealed that she didn't even want to read for the role of bella in what very may well be her breakout role; rather, she was pushed by everyone around her - agents, publicists, and even family. it looks like the push has actually paid off, however it is unsure whether or not kristin is happy with her newly found fame. smoke on, kristin, smoke on...
click here to watch one of beyonce's many performances of her single, "single ladies." if i were paying to see beyonce, i would hope she would do more singing. while the star is known for her dance moves, you see a singer perform to hear them sing! this is at least the third rendition of the song i've seen recently and she doesn't even sing the chorus. this makes me weary of ever going to see big b perform live. does she actually sing or is she all into the production? and if she's just into the production, how about doing something a little flashier? at least britney knows how to put on a show will little to no actual singing.
speaking of britney...
the recovering queen of pop leaked the first few seconds of her new music video today. "circus," the next sing of the star's album of the same name, is all about brit's life as a performer. however, the song seems to take on a whole new meaning in the media circus she is currently living. the single officially drops december 5th and the video will premiere on entertainment tonight. spears is currently overseas performing at a variety of german venues, working out songs from circus. britney is set to perform on simon cowell's x factor just before making her american re-debut on good morning america.
dancing has a new champ
brooke burke took the mirror ball trophy home tuesday night on the alphabet net's premier show, dancing with the stars. brooke is the third female winner in the show's history and the second in a row. burke, alongside partner derrick hough, beat out superbowl great warren sapp and and n'sync-er lance bass to become the new champ. keep an eye of for the dwts tour coming to a town near you this summer, including lance bass and toni braxton from this season. hopefully toni's heart condition won't prove an issue on the tour, as she is also set to do a number of songs on the tour, including her hit "unbreak my heart."
the infamous saks fifth avenue bandit, winona horrowitz, better known as ryder, was rushed to the hospital in london yesterday after two fainting spells on her british airwaves flight from lala land. reportedly, the fallen star had overdosed on xanax, which she allegedly took to ease her fear of flying. after having her stomach pumped, ryder was discharged from the hospital. with the exception of this incident, the actress was finally on the upswing from the '01 shoplifting incident and will next appear in jj abrams's star trek as spock's mother.

the list is basically a compilation of the biggest train-wrecks hollywood has seen since 07, finished off with stars that are slowly losing their pull in hollywood and need to stay in the spotlight of tabloid fame to keep their name in the world's lexicon.
britney bit
"my trust has really been battered...sometimes it can get kinda lonely...i had totally lost my way. i lost focus. i lost myself. i let certain people into my life that were just bad people....because i was lonely...i really paid the consequences for that. big time...what the hell was i thinking?"
entertainment weekly obtained this and other exclusive quotes from the bspears doc set to hit mtv at the end of november. it seems like the pop princess is finally in a place where she can realize what she was doing with her life and recover from it all. spears plans to hit the us, and most likely abroad, with a tour in the spring and summer with songs from circus, blackout, and her other hit records. britney will begin her string of performances with a birthday debut on the december 2nd episode of abc's good morning america, the rockefeller christmas tree lighting ceremony on nbc, and a possible early performance at the american music awards on sunday.
mischa online
out of work oc starlet mischa barton has decided to look to the internets for help in keeping her struggling career alive. mischabarton.celebuzz.com officially launched today. the "actress" plans to use the site as a place to connect with all 5 of her fans and update everyone on her philanthropic, aka fame-whoring, activities.
dancing's stars dim
dancing with the stars has lost a celebrity dancer in the form of julianne hough. the dancer-turned-singer announced to ryan seacrest that last night's elimation of her and her partner, hannah montana star cody linley, would mark her final appearance on the show as a dancing parter. hough plans to focus her efforts on her music career, with her self-titled debut album and target exclusive christmas cd currently in stores. though, fans of the hough family rivalry on the show won't have to look too far for a new brother/sister duo - new pro lacey schwimmer's brother, benji, will be joining the show next season.
daisies dust?
the critically acclaimed abc dramedy pushing daisies, known for its brilliant plot lines and crazy production value, may have put a nail in its own coffin last night as it pulled in a series low in viewership, averaging just 4.86 million viewers. the upside to this is that the show beat its rival timeslots for the advertiser adored 18-49 year old demographic. click here to watch the latest episode and help the show stay afloat.
update: it looks like the show has been canceled, along with dirty sexy money and eli stone, two other shows from the alphabet net. daisies will end with the second season's thirteenth episode, a cliff hanger. show runner bryan fuller says that he is in negotiations with dc comics and is working on a movie to wrap up any loose ends. i'm hoping the show will make the jump to a cable network, like showtime or hbo, where its high level creativity will be better nurtured - abc is hungry for numbers, not fans.
the devil works overtime at the office
star magazine reports that former michael buble main squeeze emily blunt, from the devil wears prada, is now dating john krasinski from nbc's the office. the two have been out of the dating game for four plus months, with krasinski's last relationship being with office costar rashida jones. while it's still a new relationship, this one seems like it might last. and hopefully, it will.
