get ready to say goodbye to susan, lynette, bree and gabrielle. the ladies of wisteria lane will make their final appearance on your tv screen this may, when abc's desperate housewives raps up its eighth season. the alphabet net has yet to make the official announcement- expect that sunday, during their television critics' association panel- but word is the series' stars got word of the show's cancellation today. while it'll be sad to see the show come to an end, it's definitely time for the moving vans to make their way to the lane. creator marc cherry's original plan was to end the series after seven seasons, and he has since stepped down as show-runner- he'll be credited as a consultant for the final season. i do like that the show will film the majority of its swan song knowing this is the end. there's nothing worse than a show getting the axe post-season. hopefully they find creative ways to wrap up the crazy storylines set up in last season's finale (and finally give vanessa williams some real material to work with) so this year is worthwhile and not another sappy melodrama.
