day 143

barbie's a billionaire
no, really, she is. barbie was the top earning celebrity for the 2008 fiscal year. no joke. barbie. the little plastic doll who's been whoring it out for 50 years now brought in $3.3 billion through mattel.  i guess we can say that barbie's aged pretty well. what about the real celebs? parade magazine reveals that jen aniston raked in nearly $30 million due to her surprise hit marley and me. i wonder if that includes how much jennifer makes off residual checks for friends reruns and dvd sales? some surprises on the list are britney spears and beyonce knowles.  britney only brought in $2.25 million (i would expect more) and beyonce brought in $80 million.  that's why she and jay-z were named the richest couple in hollywood by forbes last year.  taylor swift is well on her way to becoming the number one country crooner earner with $5.5 million in last year - the girl is only 19! makes me feel like i've done nothing...oh well. the biggest surprise from parade's survey is that celebrities, on average, earn about 115 times more than the average joe in america. pretty sad, right? guess that's the drive to become successful.  to find out more check out parade here

want to know how the hills season 5 ends?
if you want to keep the fake mystery alive, then do not read past this point. i repeat, do not read past this point. apparently a real, legitimate, non-fake staged mexican wedding between heidi montag and spencer pratt will go down two weeks from saturday (april 25th) and serve as the main story line which will bring the season to a close. the ceremony will take place at sunset with the hollywood hills as the backdrop at an undisclosed location. currently, there are 110 confirmed guests, but production is looking to add more. will lauren be in attendance? i'm sure if they throw enough money at her, she'll show up! heidi had her final fitting for the dress today at monique lhuillier's hollywood boutique. while reps for the couple and show won't comment on the situation, several of the 110 guests have been leaking the news to various outlets. i wonder if this was planned or is the real evolution of the relationship. my vote goes to stage - next week's teaser trailer showed spencer calling lauren to apologize about everything he's done the past couple of years.  while i don't want to see this take place, i really want to see what happens! what about you? btdubs, that pic is not the actual dress. it's an old paparazzi shot from a hills taping last season.

hot mess update
my favorite hot mess, lindsay lohan, is getting back to her roots. literally. the former child star headed to the salon yesterday afternoon to get some much needed hair therapy and, surprisingly, returned to the color that made her famous: red. yes, lilo's a ginger again! lindsay said the recent breakup with saman was to focus on herself and i guess that means focusing on the crazy hair she'd been sporting: grungy on the top, platinum on the bottom, and obvious extensions. she kept the extension length, but at least it looks brushed and not so "hi i'm ratty old weave hair"-ish. lohan continued the makeover treatment with a new tattoo on her wrist. no word on what the tat's of, but her sister ali was in attendance. the problem with this? la lohan got the new body ink at 3 am. is that a normal time for a 15 year old high schooler to be up on a school night? yeah, didn't think so. dina lohan's not doing anything to improve her parenting rep. i'm just glad lindsay's on the way back to her old self. next stop: meal girls 2

day 142

svu minus two?
could law and order: svu return in the fall with two new stars? that might be the future of the show in these tough economic times. with their contracts up after the current season, current stars mariska hargitay and christopher meloni are banding together to get their pay checks bumped from the current $7 mil a season.  svu is the peacock's net top scripted drama (as well as the only law and order series that perform well), so you'd think the execs would want to keep the show running as smoothly as possible, right? while insiders are saying that any change in the show would definitely be a major issue for the network and retooling the show at this time just doesn't make sense, the network is looking to cut costs in order to stay afloat. the issue i see with any changes is that the show is already going to be hurting because its losing the 10/9 central time slot to the new primetime leno show; that makes any more changes more detrimental. svu recently took a dip in the ratings after show star mariska took a leave of absence due to a health scare. the show is definitely coming back for an 11th season, but we might not know how it'll look until the show's return in september.

kumar goes to washington
kal pen - who became famous as kumar in the harold and kumar films and most recently as dr. lawrence kutner on house - has decided to leave showbiz to play in the political big leagues. kal's house character will committed suicide in a surprise twist so that kal could easily leave the show. after working with the obama campaign, the actor has now been hired by the white house as the associate director of the office of public liason and intergovernmental affairs.  the position is a way for the white house to reach out to the public and make the political side of politics a little more friendly and relatable. kal will basically be the welcome wagon to the public at the white house. this should be interesting to see. i'm alway surprised when successful actors want to leave the hollywood hills for political dreams. why do so many actors and hollywood celebs want to invest themselves so heavily in politics? there's definitely more than just a simple correlation there...

fin de actividad.

day 141

dancing loses one if its own stars
on sunday night, julianne hough took home the top new artist award at this year's acm awards and, with that, i guess she got a boost of confidence.  the dancer-turned singer will not be returning to the show that launched her career when its next season launches in the fall, but will rather focus on her ever growing music career.  hopefully it will all work out for her - she really had only one single from her debut album and it did just okay.  julianne says she wasn;t even planning on coming back for the current installment of the dance competition, but, when her beau (country crooner chuck wicks) was offered a spot as a contestant, she couldn't let him perform with anyone else. rather than devoting most of her time to teaching ballroom routines to clumsy stars, julianne will tour for the rest of 2009 with new and old material. the only time we'll see her back on the dancing stage is as a musical act (which i'm sure will turn into a regular yearly gig).  i'm just wondering why she decided to announce this right now.  maybe hoping for a voting boost so that she can finish the show on a high note...and with a mirrored ball trophy to boot.  plus, it would make julianne the pro with the most wins to her name on the alphabet net's signature show.

cameras keep going sans conrad
the hills are still alive...and filming episodes about lauren. even though lauren conrad finished up all the filming she was contractually obligated to do for the season in march, cameras continue to role with audrina and co and the material that's being filmed involves lauren.  are you confused yet? how is this possible? before lauren's contract with mtv ran out, producers of the ever popular "reality" series filmed lauren reacting a variety of scenarios that might play out though the season finale to keep fans satisfied as they watched the canned plots.  for example, you know the brody/audrina hook-up that's been advertised in the "this season..." segments? that was all staged because the producers had footage of lauren's reactions.  another proposed story line? a stephanie pratt pregnancy. lauren reacted by giggling and then putting on her best acting skills to give a great performance.  but, mtv doesn't want you to know this - they're motto is deny, deny, deny.  in other hills news, heidi montag has publicly admitted that the show doesn't need lauren.  how, i don't know.  "we'll miss her...i just don't know if we need her" were heidi's exact words.  heidi is garnering to take lauren's lead spot in the series, but how would her life play out on camera? she has no life to film without her battles with conrad.  that's why producers are angling for a stephanie pratt led series.  pratt is being featured heavily this season and has even been added into the opening credits of the series (but without name cred).  with audrina leaving the show, it's really the only thing that makes sense.

my favorite hot mess: lindsay lohan
i have officially chosen to name lindsay lohan as my favorite hot mess.  not only is her career dying a slow, painful death, but so is her love life.  now that she and samantha ronson are officially over, news is breaking that lalohan has caused quite the rift in the ronson family.  last week, sam's family allegedly staged an intervention with sam in hopes of getting lindsay out of her life for good.  now, the family is said to be working towards a restraining order to keep the hollywood darling away from saman.  as well, sam's sister, charlotte, was overheard discussing the matter of lindsay with a clerk at the chateau marmont. charlotte is positive that lindsay is on drugs and that explains her erratic behavior, which included sneaking into the ronson's room illegally at the chateau.  after being denied entrance into charlotte's party, lindsay rented the room directly below the ronson's at the hotel and stayed up all night trying to get their attention.  charlotte's friend also brought out the idea that lindsay needs more than just addiction help; she needs psychiatric help.  lindsay is allegedly a cutter, as both an attention seeking action and as a coping mechanism.  i can only hope the girl will be able to get things together soon.

day 140

chris brown beat her down heads to court
in the ongoing saga of rihanna and chris brown (it looks like they're finally separated for good), c breezy pled not guilty today in relation to the charges brought against him in relation to the february assault.  how he can plead not guilty is beyond me, but his legal team is apparently in the process of hammering out a crazy plea deal that would let the r&b crooner off pretty much scotch free. they want to avoid a court case as much as possible. surprisingly, rihanna is cooperating with chris' team. everyone appears to want the plea deal to occur and for the whole ordeal to go away into the hollywood wasteland.  i guess that's good - get all the press off the duo and let them get back to their lives as normally as possible.  but it seems like chris should still get some punishment for it; has he learned his lesson?  i don't know but i hope so.

taylor swift is magic
each year at the academy of country music awards, taylor swift brings it.  i don't have much to say about this performance other than it's really cool.  because the show was held in vegas, taylor recruited acclaimed magician david copperfield to help her make a grand entrance onto the stage sunday night.  taylor magically appeared in a floating box above the stage before heading to the piano to perform her latest single, "you're not sorry."  taylor also picked up the crystal milestone award for helping bring country music back into the mainstream and reinvigorating the youth's interest in the genre.  click here, also, to see taylor as part of the opening number of the 2009 acms.  brooks and dunn leads the number with their hit "play something country."  in between the verses they were accompanied by some of country's biggest names singing something country, including taylor, sugarland, carrie underwood, and rascal flats. another performance to check out is miley cyrus' "the climb." the disney star actually seemed like a real country star when performing the lead single from the hannah montana movie soundtrack.  plus the whole stair lift was just cool.

April 5, 2009

day 139

lindsay and samantha are over
yes, ladies and gentleman, one of the most bizarre relationships in hollywood's history may have finally met its end.  the bi-curious starlet and her dj-ing girlfriend are no longer an item if la lohan's twitter is any indication.  apparently, lilo was denied entry to samantha's sister, fashion designer charlotte's, party which saman happend to be dj-ing.  ok magazine is reporting that up to 5 bouncers had to hold lohan back.  and, what's a scorned curious 20something to do?  air her dirty laundry all over the internets.  some gems from lindsay's posts at ronson include:

"it's like this? fine. Byebye"

"ask ur sister 2 stop yelling profanity plz;;stop doing drugs. and tell charlotte to do more-she could loose a stone or 10"

"look, im doing this publicly because u&ur friends call people mag..so-you win, you broke my heart. now go away. i loved you"

"PLEASE leave me ALONE. and stop staying in the room below me, you've woken me and my mother up. go to bed. keep cheating u win"

and

"I was right all along. Cheat"

so, lindsay was able to expose her relationship with sam, expose sam's drug use, and call her out as a cheater all via tweets.  keep in mind these were interjected with posts to lily allen's twitter (why not just text her?) that were basically cries for attention.  i seriously hope lindsay can get it all together and regain the career she was supposed to have. as in, rewind 5 years to mean girls and make good choices.

that's it for today.

day 138

out
probably won't be able to post today. check back later just in case.

April 3, 2009

day 137

lily and lindsay, at it again
after making headlines for getting matching "shhh" tattoos similar to rihanna's in february, lindsay and lohan and lily allen have teamed up once again.  the terrible twosome made a mini appearance together at lily's concert last night in los angeles.  during lily's "encore" performance to the britney spears' comeback hit "womanizer," lindsay randomly popped up on stage (around the 3:30 mark in the vid above) to awkwardly greet lily and then attempt to sing a small portion of the song, spending the rest of her short tenure on stage flailing about before she slowly moved off stage hoping no one would notice.  so, lily appeased la lohan for about 5 seconds before she realized that she was actually performing.  with news surfacing that lindsay wanted to put a britney cover on her new album, this could be the perfect duet.  lily has unofficially released the single and has been using it as her closing number for most of her gigs since the release of her latest album.  i just wish lindsay would get a hold of herself.  if you're going to pop up on stage, make it pre planned and rock out with lily! don't just jump up there to do a white girl dance.

madonna misses out on mercy
madonna won't be adding another malawian child to her brood anytime soon.  the material mom was denied her adoption for 3 year old mercy today, even after receiving backing by the country's government and getting word from her legal team that it was a done deal.  the reason why madonna isn't getting to take the child home with her? she didn't meet residency requirements.  well, duh! according to malawian law (which was apparently looked over when she adopted son david in 2006) a potential adopter must have lived in the country for 18 to 24 months in advance of the adoption.  but, because she's madonna and all, madonna isn't letting a little legal mumbo jumbo get in the way of her adoption.  she filed an appeal to the supreme court of malawi today to overrule the ruling.  and, because it will probably be looked over by a different judge, i'd expect madonna to have mercy in new york or london in the next month or so.  the thing i don't understand is why all these kids in malawi are considered orphans when they have a living relative who cares for them.  david's father is still alive and even got a visit from his biological son during the singer's trip to the country for this process, and mercy' grandmother cares for her.  plus, the judge's ruling says that madonna's contributions to the orphanage and surrounding areas where mercy lives are beneficiary enough for the little one without having to displace her hundreds of miles away.  this is a case to keep our eyes on - i don't expect it to fall off the radar for quite some time.

er says farewell
nbc's thursday night staple (for the past 15 years), er,  said buh-bye last night to quite the crowd.  the peacock net's only medical drama brought in over 16 million people, besting all competing networks for the 8-11 time slot.  er is the biggest drama series finale since murder, she wrote left the airwaves nearly 13 years ago, and the biggest get for adults 18-49 since 2002's x-files send off.  even george clooney's march return couldn't outdo the finale - his ep only garnered about 11 million.  in its 90s heydey, the show would average with viewership in the 20 millions, but interest waned when original cast members started to peel off.  the show hasn't had any of the original cast on board as regulars since since noah wyle left 4 years ago.  the show will be missed, but its place as tv's leading hospital serial was taken over by grey's anatomy back in 2005.

April 2, 2009

day 136

sex in 2010
are you ready for more sex? and by sex, i mean in the city.  the ladies of nyc will be back in a theater near you in the summer of 2010.  may 28th to be exact, according to newline cinema.  the film's script is being finished up as we speak and should be ready to film sometime this summer or fall.  the film will follow the continued adventures of the four women after carrie's wedding, miranda's reconciliation with steve, charlotte's second daughter's arrival, and samantha's newly found freedom.

this hills: fakery continues
even though we know it's fake, we can't help but continue to follow the exploits of lc and company.  the latest "scandal" to rock the hills is that spencer and heidi will be breaking up.  yes, a pre-planned break-up.  the split is all part of a multi-cover deal the duo made with us weekly.  the promised the mag a four cover deal and, with their "wedding" issue, they only have 1 more to complete the $200,000 deal.  and, with a fake break up, a fake reconciliation can't be too far behind, and that only means more money for the couple.  this news is breaking only after it's been discovered that the actual story has been written.  expect the story to his newstands later this month.

there weren't too many stories out today, but check out i get that a lot.  it gave me a laugh or two...espesh leann rimes' bit.

April 1, 2009

day 135

the hills are alive
the the fifth and final (as we know it, at least) season of mtv's the hills premiering on monday, a lot of promotions and press have been going on lately.  first of all, the cast's final photos together were released today.  the big pic is above, but you can check out the rest here.  even though lc said the pic was taken all together on an mtv retrospective/interview that aired monday, it looks like photoshop had it's way - as can be seen here.  the ladies look like they took their pic separately as brody is noticeably absent.  lauren, always one to put her foot in her mouth, relayed to entertainment weekly that she was hoping last season's finale was her final bow, but the producers wanted her back to tie everything up...even though she "says" she doesn't have much going on in her life.  by the look of the pic above, lo bosworth, stephanie pratt, and justin bobby have all been added to the cast full time.  this is the first time the cast photo has included more than just lauren, audrina, heidi, and (formerly) whitney.  but, hollywood has definitely taken its toll on the ladies.  lookie here to see the ladies' first season promo.  everyone (well, with the exception of audrina) was smiley and happy and plastic surgery free! what happened? my only guess can be that spencer pratt got involved.  and speaking of spencer, he and his musical prodigy/girlfriend-fiance-wife hybrid heidi stopped by ryan seacrest's radio show this morning to premiere not one, but two singles.  head over the ryan seacrest's webpage to listen to them.  at least "your love found me" isn't horrible.  heidi's entire music catalog can be found there, too.  it's a good way to lost 15 minutes of your life.  and don't worry hills fans, lauren says she won't be done with tv any time soon. she's currently in the process of turning her yet to be released semi-autobiographical novel/series la candy into a scripted series.  apparently our budding fashion designer/writer/actress/reality vixen also wants to add producer to her many credits.  the show doesn't have a home (or any sort of development for that matter) yet, but mtv or the cw is sure to pick up on it in the near future.  the book hits shelves june 16th, but is available for pre-order over on amazon now.

project runway finally gets home
the legal battle over mega reality series project runway is finally over! the show will head to lifetime (formerly television for women, now television for everyone) for its 6th cycle (and 1st in los angeles) after the weinstein company reached a deal with the show's former home, bravo/nbc-universal.  the weinstein bros sold the show over to lifetime after the shows contract with bravo expired last summer even though the contract had a clause in it that was supposed to allow nbc-universal to counter any other offer before the show runners made a decision on the show's future.  after almost a year in legal limbo and with the 6th season having finished filming earlier this year, the show was in desperate need of a home.  and now, all of us fans get a chance to see it! lifetime has yet to announce a premiere date for the series, but i can only imagine it will be very, very soon - probably this summer to capitalize on viewership.  this is a tough loss for nbc; they are constantly placing 3rd in their various markets and pr was one of their few success stories and they've now lost it to major competitor disney/abc, which owns lifetime.  no word yet on if the show's reruns will continue to air on bravo or if all rights will head to lifetime.  it will be interesting to see, as well, if viewers will follow the show over the female friendly net.  bravo is known for hip/cutting edge reality programming and lifetime, simply, is not.  i'm also looking forward to seeing how bravo's fashion successor, the fashion show, will do in the net's post runway era.  the show is currently in production with singer kelly rowland as host.  in a related story, kelly recently parted ways with columbia records.

destiny returns?
all signs are pointing to a destiny's child reunion sometime in 2011.  while kelly rowland may have parted ways with columbia records as a solo artist, her john hancock is still on file as part of the world's most famous girl group.  kelly is reportedly set to reunite with beyonce and michelle williams next year to work on new material for a "reunion" album of sorts.  the girls are still contractually obligated to produce a final disc and the record label isn't looking for a get-out-quick scheme with a "greatest hits" album.  beyonce is currently on her "i am..." tour and won't be done into 2010 and michelle is still promoting her most recent release, unexpected, which features her surprise club hit "we break the dawn." the girls will head to the studio next year to crank out some new sure to be hits, even if they don't want to.  are you ready to here some new beats from b and her backup singers?

March 31, 2009

day 134

real housewives get real
bravo's real housewives of new york city are not having the best of luck lately.  newest cast member kelly bensimon was arrested at the beginning of the month for assaulting and punching her longtime boyfriend nick stefanov.  bensimon's now ex didn't show up to his recent court date about the situation and, if he doesn't show to the rescheduled june hearing, the case will be dismissed.  if he does show, kelly faces up to a year in jail.  i smell spinoff for bravo! love-to-hate-her crazy woman alex mccord was recently let go from her position as a "visual merchandizer" (i don't know exactly what that entails) for victoria's secret and is on the search for a job, but can't quite seem to catch one because of her on-screen persona.  and the third, and so far final, victim of this bad lick is countess luann de lesseps.  lulu announced today that she and her husband, the count, will be splitting after 16 years of marriage after he recently admitted to being unfaithful to his fourth wife and mother of his children.  does she still get to keep her title? that i don't know, but that could be a bit of a problem when her book on manners, class with countess, hits bookshelves later this year.  hopefully the bravo series will catch all this drama for the next season, though it probably won't - they tend to only film in then summer.  i wonder if luann's little announcement was made today just to see if viewership would increase for tonight's new ep.

just a thought...
why is miley cyrus, a 16 year old girl, on the latest cover of glamour?  the magazine's mean readership is women in their mid 30s! i cannot imagine they're interested in the trials and tribulations of a disney starlet.  but, whatever.  as long as the magazine sells, it's all good.  maybe glamour is trying to get more younger readers? the pics inside the mag look cute, but not women's mag worthy.  if teen people were still around, i'd say this would be a better fit.  i can't imagine glamour is the best marketing strategy for april 10th's hannah montana movie.  why not teen mags? just to give you some context, the recent glamour cover girls have included katie holmes, fergie, and christina aguilera, who are much closer in age to the mag's readers, especially when the mag targets 18 year olds at the youngest...

March 30, 2009

day 133

90210 cast shake up?
it looks like season 2 of the cw's flagship show 90210 is going to look a little different.  reports are surfacing that current season regular dustin milligan, who plays ethan ward, has been dropped as a series regular and will return in a recurring capacity.  the show recently switched hands in the form of showrunner - former series writer rebecca rand kirschner just inked a deal to run the show for 2 seasons after gabe sachs and jeff judah recently stepped down from the network after a number of disputes over the show's direction.  kirschner apparently wants to take the show in its originally proposed direction, doing what gossip girl did for kids in new york to the youth in lalaland.  basically, the show will be more edgy.  kirschner also wants to stop the "casting people for stunt value" aspect of the show, which i can only interpret as a dig to original series returners jennie garth, shannen doherty, and tori spelling.  all in all, kirschner seems like a grade a beyotch.  but, most people in hollywood are strong minded.  so what will become of dustin/ethan?  the character will reportedly have "run his course" and be back to tie up some loose ends.  to take the "bad boy" place that was originally intended to be ethan's (remember the bj sequence in the first ep?), recent recurring star matt lanter - the tough bartender who naomi is trying to impress - has been bumped up to full time cast member for the next season. milligan really doesn't have the best of luck with the ceedub; his show runaway was supposed to be the star series of the new network in its first year but was quickly dropped by the net after it failed to garner "big ratings."  turns out the show did just about as well as 90210 is doing.  however, no official word has been put out by the network yet.  this should be interesting.

britney won't leave herself alone
i just don't understand why ms. spears doesn't seem to have her best interest in mind.  or, at least, that's what some people want us to believe.  gossip site jfxonline (yeah, i hadn't heard of it either) got hold of the recording above.  it was allegedly left on britney's lawyer's voice mail.  here's the transcript of the call.

"hi my name’s britney spears. i called you earlier. i’m calling again because i just wanted to make sure that during the process of eliminating the conservatorship that my father has threatened me several times, you know, he’ll take my children away.

i just want to be guaranteed that everything will be fine with the process of you guys taking care of everything–that things will stay the same as far as my custodial time. that’s it, bye."

now, because it is a voicemail, we can't be 100% sure it is brit brit, but it sure does sound like here.  though, i'm sure there's a person or two out there who has perfected her accent.  the call came in late january, so this kind of action could be taking place right now.  but why?  i don't understand what's so bad about the conservatorship - she's doing what she (allegedly) loves, making a lot of money, and gets more time with her kids than ever! oh well, it is britney.

just 2 stories again today.

March 29, 2009

day 132

this might be...
my favorite picture ever. 90210 star annaylnne mccord left the season 1 wrap party for the cw series at an la nightclub looking completely and utterly throwed! i bet she hurled like no other when she got in the car.  the one plus was that the actress attended the event with a designated driver in toe.  i want to frame this picture, it's so entertaining.  it may even become my computer background.  just wanted to share the loveliness that is miss mccord with everyone.  i don't know if this is the best image to be sending out to people when you play a 16 year old on tv - viewers might get confused. at least annalynne has job security throught 2010 - 90210 has been confirmed a sophmore season on the ceedub. if you want to see some more effed up stars, click here

kids choice awards - who the hell won?
after a lot of dramz (the lesbian themed anthem "i kissed a girl" was nominated and chris brown withdrew his name from consideration after that whole rihanna thing), the nickelodeon kids choice awards took place saturday night.  here's the winners from the biggest categories: high school musical 3 took home the best movie blimp, while will smith (hancock) and vanessa hudgens (hsm 3) won for favorite tv actor and actress respectively.  i carly was the kids' choice for fave tv show, while disney stars selena gomez and dylan sprouse took home the top acting honors.  don't worry, folks, miley wasn't completely shut out.  the disney diva was named fave female singer alongside male choice jesse mccartney.  fellow disney stars the jonas brothers were the choice for favorite groups and katy perry's bisexual hit was beat out by beyonce's "single ladies." miley was even moved to tears by her award.  wow. well it seems no matter how hard the orange splatted network tries, they still are beat out by the mouse house - on their own awards show, no less!

2 stories is better than none, right?

March 28, 2009

day 131

sorry
but be back tomorrow.

March 27, 2009

day 130

beyonce gets creative
beyonce has always been known to bring it on stage, but the current queen of the charts has taken that level of brought-ness to a whole new level.  beyonce kicked off the foreign leg of her "i am..." tour last night in canada and, during her set, decided to honor two of canada's biggest singers.  the vid above shows beyonce rocking the alanis morrisette song "you oughta know" to the sold out crowd.  the song is a bit of a departure for b, but i like it - she should really consider doing an album of rock covers, putting the knowles spin on them.  beyonce also brought down the house with a rendition of sarah mclachlan's "arms of an angel."  click here to check out that performance. what are your thoughts on a beyonce cover album? and, is she going to be honoring each country's big artists in the rest of her shows?  i don't know if croatia, holland, or the czech republic have any pop stars, but if anyone can find something to perform, it's beyonce. the only us tour stop b has announced is in washington on april 1st - the rest of her dates should be sometime this summer or fall.

plea deals are fun
well, for some stars at least. rapper t.i. was sentenced to exactly one year, one day after he negotiated a plea deal today.  t.i. has the next 6 to 8 weeks to turn himself in voluntarily, which he is sure to do - and mtv cameras will probably be there to capture it all.  t.i.'s plea deal in his multiple illegal weapons charge included 1,000 hours of community service prior to today's sentencing (which he completed with the help of mtv's road to redemption series), a $100,000 fine (which is chump change for the star who has racked up millions off his latest album, paper trail), and, finally, another 50 hours of community service once behind bars - say hello to toilet brushes and dish pans, cliff! (t.i. real name is clifford joseph harris, jr.) the one year, one day sentence is probably good for the rapper - it gives him time to work on new material ideas, which he can then record the minute he steps out of jail. most artists take a year or two hiatus between albums, anyway. this little legal scuffle is no more than a smudge in his permanent record - people won't recall it if his music continues to do well.

sound off
time for a newfeature here on dirty laundry.  here are my thoughts on madonna's recent announcement she's adopting again.  why? you already have 3 kids who you probably hire someone to take care of most of the time.  it's great you want to help kids in malawi/abroad, but it seems like you're getting preferential treatment, madge.  the adoption process in malawi is usually a strict one, but madonna is able to pretty much waltz into the african nation and take the child as she pleases.  why not set up a foundation to help other people who want to be parents adopt children from malawi? they seem to like you over there.  oh well, i guess one kid being plucked from squalor and obscurity is better than none.  i just feel bad for people who aren't famous who are on long, long waiting lists to finally get a child over here and who don't have to ability to go abroad and have their pick.

day 129

three stooges on the big screen
some interesting casting choices have been made in order to bring the most famous comedy trio in history to a theater near you.  sean penn, benicio del toro, and jim carrey are all attached to star as larry, moe, and curly respectively. the film has been 10 years in the works and is just now getting attention.  the farrelly brothers, the guys behind there's something about mary and dumb and dumber, are backing the flick alongside mgm - their third choice behind columbia and warner bros.  once contracts are finalized, cameras should start rolling this fall and the boys should hit the movies in the summer of 2010.  i think jim carrey is the only casting choice that makes sense, though he will have to gain 40+ lbs to take on the role of chubby curly.  why not just find a fat comedian?  this will be interesting to see - can sean penn and benicio even be funny? sean was only funny in fast times, but he was high during that movie! i'll have to wait and see a trailer for the movie before i can make any decisions; but, knowing the farrelly bros, it'll probably be lol, gross out humor.

i'm tellin you people - it's a one story week!

day 128

barbara says bye bye to broadcast
legendary broadcaster barbara walters is said to be hanging up her microphone when her contract with abc ends this summer. the 79 year old tv vet has been coming into people's living rooms since the early 60s, when she got her start on nbc's today show.  why take the plunge now? walters believes she's done anything and everything and there's nothing new for her to explore; she doesn't want to waste her last years interviewing the nobodies who pass for celebrities today.  hmm...i would just say babs is out of touch.  plus, it's time for her to retire.  with the exception of her oscars special, barbara isn't really a force in the industry anymore.  the broadcasting brand has to move beyond barbara.  and i'm sure the alphabet net will be happy to invite her back if she wanted to do a special every now and again.  plus, she'll probably stay on as executive producer of the view (as well as popping up from time to time as a cohost).  most people don't work into their eighties, so why should babs?  she needs to retire and take some time to explore the world without working.

seems to be a one story week. sorry kiddos.

day 127

bynes back to tv
amanda bynes - star of all that, the amanda show, and what i like about you - is (hopefully) making the transition back to the small screen thanks to abc.  the alphabet net has ordered a pilot entitled canned, a comedy about a group of twenty-somethings who all get fired at the same time. after a string of box office hits and misses, like hairspray and she's the man, the tv star is taking on the role of a naive midwestern girl who often pulls all nighters at the office just to get work done.  bynes is the only "name" attached to star in the project - the other yuppies are no names.  that means bynes will be the name they use to promote the show.  it'll be nice to see amanda back on screen, but will she be able to pull of an "adult" role? she's only ever played a teen so the transition will be an interesting one to witness. if the show gets picked up for series, it'll hit abc's lineup this fall.  i'm just hoping she puts down the platinum dye bottle before cameras role.

just the one story today folks.

day 126

efron won't be footloose
zac efron is hopping on the lindsay lohan train of torpedoing your career.  the teen fave is dropping out of sure-to-be blockbuster footloose. the kenny ortega directed flick was going to update the kevin bacon fave with the musical numbers from its broadway makeover and has always been touted as a zefron vehicle.  but, now, the blockbuster is without a star.  efron is said to be tired of all the teen roles and musicals - what a great thing to say right before your family friendly flick 17 again hits theaters! - and wants to move into more serious roles, like his turn in the period drama me and orson welles. so what does this mean for the future of the movie?  the movie was originally start production next month, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen now.  and how about the hairspray sequel?  if zac is done with musicals and teen flicks, then that definitely rules out the late 60s continuation of the musical adaptation.  is zefron stupid? he's totally shooting himself in the foot.  he's not a leading man in the sense that he can compete with the likes of leo dicaprio or jake gyllenhaal.  it'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the next couple of years.

lc loses line
lauren conrad's eponymous clothing line has officially folded. but, the wanna be designer doesn't want you to know that.  instead of admitting defeat, the star is saying the line is going under a refocusing after the current dip in sales from the economic climate.  the line, however, has never sold well - it's all cotton dresses for minimum $200! who wants that?  lauren is hoping to make the line more upscale, with higher end fabrics and additions that she was unable to use the first go around.  i say just give up and stay on tv! mtv is said to be developing other projects for lauren because they don't want to let her go.  a new show might follow lauren's real life, maybe even the development of the newly re-imagined line.  a reality star can never walk away from the cameras completely.  i imagine she'll be back in our living rooms in the fall or early 2010 with a new project on the network that launched her into the instcelebrity she has become.

just a thought...
yay! self magazine finally did a cover a little differently.  the new issue, featuring house bunny star anna faris, doesn't
put the actress in the dead center with warrior arms. instead, she's shown full body! but, why is she still in a bathing suit?  i guess you can't change everything at one time.

March 22, 2009

day 125

sunday
like most of the time, sundays are pretty name.  just a few updates - bruce willis tied the knot with longtime girlfriend emma heming at the star's home in turk and caicos.  bruce's ex, demi moore, and her husband, ashton kutcher were in attendance ... julia roberts' comeback film, duplicity, was outshined at the box office by the nicholas cage sci fi drama knowing.  is julia just not the power she once was in hollywood?  i think the problem is she stepped out for so long and turned away from the roles that made her famous ... harrison ford and calista flockhart, after almost 8 years of dating, have decided to to tie the knot ... natasha bedingfield, known for her song-turned-hills theme unwritten, also got hitched this weekend to longtime beau matthew robinson ...

that's it kiddos.

day 124

audrina patridge's acting debut
here it is.  the hills and soon to be solo reality star audrina patridge hits the big screen in october with a remake of 1983's the house on sorority row, simply titled sorority row.  the cast is rounded out by hollywood offspring rumer willis, real world alum jamie chung, and even stevens' vet margo harshman.  it looks like the overall plot of the film has been overhauled since the original so it'll be fresh to viewers.  that's probably about the only plus.  the acting looks pretty ridiculous, especially audrina's.  plus, she dies in the preview! how big can her part be? i guess she just sets up the whole plot?  and why are they releasing the preview so early?  that probably means the movie is a big bomb but they want to create a lot of buzz around it.

ellen lands oprah
for only the third time, oprah will be sharing the cover of her o magazine.  lady o first shared the cover with gal pal gayle, followed by michelle obama in this month's issue.  next up?  ellen degeneres.  ellen has joked over the past few years that she should get to share some magazine rack space with the diva of daytime and, now, she will.  after ellen called oprah and was put on hold for 11 minutes, oprah decided a cover of her eponymous mag was the least she could do.  check out the video from ellen's friday show above.  i would venture to guess ted no longer has  a job at harpo studios.

lohan gone loopy
i'm a little youtube mad today. check out lindsay lohan's new ad campaign for italian design house fornarina above.  supposedly, the ad is supposed to tell a modernized "alice in wonderland" story, but i just don't see it.  what's with all the words? makes no sense.  but at least she's making some money right?  lohan is also on the cover of nylon's latest issue.  just a whole lot of shameless self promotion, right?  even if lohan has said in her past that she doesn't like press when she's not promoting some of her "art."  lohan spreads what sounds like a line of bull in the issue, saying she's in discussions with sean penn for a new project.  check out the article here.
