veronica mars: the movie?
rob thomas, the creator behind one of tv's lost gems, veronica mars, is now adding fury to the fire of rumors that have followed the show's name around since its demise in 2007. in an interview with if magazine, rob says he wants to bring the crime fighting high schooler to the big screen as....a crime fighting college graduate. thomas has begun to pen the script, which should pick up right before veronica's graduation (they're throwing aside the pitched final season of veronica-as-fbi agent), now that his abc show, cupid, has a reduced episode order of 8, down from 13. none of the stars have signed on for the film, but kristen bell is sure to sign on to play the role that made her famous. joel silver is said to be backing the film. it's always good to see the "little shows that could" get air time in a place where people will actually see them: the movies.
the king of queens is a movie star?
former king of queens star kevin james's new flick, paul blart: mall cop, took the top spot at the box office this weekend, shocking almost...everyone. it looks like people are looking for the obvious laughs in the tough economic times (and it's good they're going to the movies in such times). with tomorrow being a holiday, the film looks to make nearly $40 million in its opening weekend. the box office is up nearly 30% from last year at the same time. another new comer, diddy's notorious, about the life and death of rapper notorious b.i.g., came it at number three, making $24 million. that's pretty good for a biopic - i don't think another biopic about a singer has done so well since selena. hopefully the movies will stay popular and people will continue to go out - escaping their economic woes while stimulating the economy at the same time.
sad to say, but there's only 2 stories today, too...
