finally some news!
it looks like andy samberg will be handing out the golden popcorn statuettes this year when the 2009 mtv movie awards hits the small screen in may. the snl funnyman got his start writing for the awards show when jimmy fallon hosted the show in 2005. fallon liked the material samberg and his team - who are known as the lonely island and who have written skits like "dick in a box" and recently released a comedy music cd - that he recommended they come out to new york and work for the saturday night staple. and, i guess, the rest is history. samberg is the only one of his troop to make the transition to featured player on the show. i guess its nice to go full circle, right? samberg has had minimal silver screen experience. his one film, 2007's hot rod, didn't even break even at the box office. it's very hard for the "not ready for primetime" players of snl to make any sort of transition to the movies. if they do, it's usually in the form of one of their already perfected recurring characters on the sketch show. samberg follows in the shoes of eddie murphy, will smith, ben stiller, sarah jessica parker, and lindsay lohan. mike myers most recently hosted the festivities. i'll be interested to see how he does - i can't really see him as the "leading man" type and don't know if he'll be able to carry the show alone - mike myers was barely able to last year.
i know it's sad, but i only got the one story today. hopefully someone will get a dui, get divorced, or get pregnant tomorrow. i can dream, right?
