britney, live!

britney spears did something she never does at her show in north carolina last night: she sang live. the princess of pop added a new number to her best-selling circus tour, a cover of alanis morrisette's "you oughta know." check out the video above to hear brit brit's rendition of the moody rock-ballad, which is surprisingly entertaining. one of my favorite things is when artists go out of their comfort zones and perform something unexpected. we almost never see pop stars doing covers of indie hits, but rather acts like alanis covering pop tunes, like the black eyed peas' "my humps." i think it would be an interesting idea if britney decided to do an album of covers, featuring songs that she likes but we'd never know she did. britney is on the second leg of her circus tour in north america and will be done traveling the world in november. that means that, by this time next year, we should have some new britney material to entertain us on the radio.
